This paper deals with management and emotional intelligence (EI) and their interrelation. The first main chapter is management, consisting of several smaller sections. These sections address the theoretical framework of management as well as managerial skills and leadership styles. The theoretical framework provides insight into the main definitions of management and its historical development. Key theorists and experts in the field of management and their theories that have shaped the modern approach are highlighted here. The paper then touches on the skills that a manager needs to be successful. The main groups of skills mentioned in the literature are listed and explained. This is followed by leadership styles, which explain how managerial practice operates and how individual managers differ from each other. The next major chapter is emotional intelligence. At the very beginning, emotional intelligence is explained through the main definitions, followed by a historical overview of the development and research of emotional intelligence. The main representatives and experts in this field and their models of emotional intelligence are also highlighted. The paper further delves into the methods of measurement and research on the relationship between EI and leadership. The aim of the paper is to explain each component and demonstrate the importance of their interconnection. This is evident in the penultimate chapter, which describes how and in what ways a high degree of EI affects success in management. The main conclusion of the paper is that, according to most experts, the influence of EI on management definitely exists, but given that it is a relatively new concept, further research and new measurement methods are needed to further define and clarify this area.
