This paper addresses persuasion in interpersonal business communication. The aim of the research was to investigate different approaches, techniques and strategies of persuasion, find common elements among them, and find out if there is such a thing as an ultimate persuasion strategy. Six semi-structured interviews were applied. Participants were people with at least 15 years of experience in management positions, and experienced persuaders. All participants were between 50 and 60 years old, five were men and one was a woman. Interviews gave us insight into their experiences in persuasion processes. Qualitative, thematic analysis was conducted. Results were divided in chapters: Education in persuasion, Persuasion strategies (which includes: importance of listening, importance of first impression and non-verbal communication, establishing trust, preparation vs. spontaneity in persuasion), Traits of persuaders, and Persuasion ethics. Findings show that although there is no such a thing as an ultimate persuasion strategy, and the persuasion process mostly depends on knowledge and experience of the persuader, there are a few common elements that experienced persuaders are using and which makes persuasion more effective. Some of those elements are detailed preparation, creating a positive first impression, listening and monitoring the other person, flexibility and some specific traits of persuaders themselves.
