Abstract
Afroamerikanci diljem svijeta, a ponajviše u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama, još uvijek se susreću s predrasudama i diskriminacijom radi boje kože. Problem koji potječe iz tih predrasuda te uzrokuje drugačije postupanje prema Afroamerikancima naziva se rasizam. Kako bi postigli jednakost i osigurali si temeljna ljudska prava, Afroamerikanci su borbu protiv rasizma započeli davno. Međutim, ona i dalje traje. Kronološki pregled značajnih događaja koji su promijenili odnos moćnijih bijelaca prema potlačenim Afroamerikancima otkriva dugogodišnju povijest diskriminacije i rasizma, čak i nakon što su zakoni za jednakost izglasani i stupili na snagu. Brojni veliki nenasilni prosvjedi koji su tijekom godina održani održavaju se i danas preko neprofitabilne organizacije Black lives matter koja se bori za pravedno provođenje zakona i protiv diskriminacije na temelju boje kože. Cilj ovog rada jest da se na temelju relevantne hrvatske i međunarodne literature prikaže i podrobnije objasni problem rasizma u svijetu. U radu su korišteni mnogi primjeri iz stvarnog života koji su se događali kroz povijest. Svrha rada je približiti kompleksnost problema rasizma, educirati o toj temi i prikazati uspješna rješenja prije navedenog problema.
Abstract (english)
All around the world, and especially in the United States, African Americans are still facing prejudice and discrimination because of their skin colour. The issue that originates from these prejudice and causes the different treatment of African Americans is called racism. In order to bring about equality and secure for themselves their basic human rights, African Americans started the fight against racism long ago. However, the fight still goes on. A chronological overview of significant events that shifte d the relationship between the more powerful whites and the oppressed African Americans reveals a long lasting history of discrimination and racism, even after the passing and introduction of equality laws. Many large non violent protests that were held ov er the years are still being held today by the Black Lives Matter non profit organisation which is fighting for fairer law enforcement and against discr imination based on skin colour. The goal of this paper is to use relevant Croatian, as well as internati onal, literature to present and further explain the issue of racism in the world. The paper features real life examples that happened over the years. The purpose of this paper is to bring closer the complexity of the problem known as racism, to educate abo ut the topic and to showcase successful solutions to the aforementioned issue.
