Abstract
Završni rad „Prve modeme Olimpijske igre“ daje povijesni pregled Olimpijskih igara, od njihovog nastajanja u antičkoj Grčkoj pa do održavanja prvih modernih igara u Ateni 1896. U radu se prikazuje djelovanje fřancuskog humanista baruna Pierrea de Coubertina čijom su zaslugom Olimpijske igre ponovno oživjele krajem 19. stoljeća. Posebno su istaknuta njegova nastojanja i želja o zajedništvu među narodima, kao i želja o natjecanju svjetske mladosti na sportskom polju. Olimpijske igre 1896. predstavljaju prvi i najvažniji korak razvoja suvremenog sporta.
Abstract (english)
Paper First Modern Olympic Games gives historic overview of Olympic games from the very begining in ancient Greece, till first modem games held in Athens in 1896. It describes activity of a French humanist Baron Pierre de Cubertin who is credited for Olympic games revival at the end of 19th century. His endevour and desire for people‘s unity are highlighted in particular, as well as striving for world youth competition on sports ground. Olympic games in 1896 represent the first and the most important step in development of modem sport.
